Best Home Security Alarm Systems

Always use your alarm system even at night! There are lots of different types of options for a home security system. You can have some very simple burglar alarms to sophisticated monitored security systems that include CCTV, and fire alarms. There are two types of alarm system or options you have to consider first do you get a perimeter alarm system or an internal one. The best is undoubtedly the perimeter system but this will cost more. The perimeter alarm system is designed to secure the perimeter of your home, so if anyone does try to get in the alarm will go off before they get in. The cheapest option and easiest to install is internal motion sensors, however the intruder will need to be in you home to set the alarm off. Low-cost alarms are less reliable and can, through false alarms, be a nuisance to both you and your neighbours. Consider whether you need an audible-only alarm (which sets off a siren or bell) or a monitored alarm (connected to a central 'listening' service). Due to the huge number of false alarms, police will only respond to audible alarms if there is confirmation of suspicious activity - such as a neighbour saying they saw someone or heard glass being broken.

Wireless Home Security Alarm Systems

Motion DetectorsEasy to install, simply place the motion detectors in the most suitable position, usually near stairs on in a hallway. The sensors (PIRs) Passive infrared detectors detect motion and set off the alarm. The only downside is that the intruder must already be in you home to set it off. On the upside they are cheap and easy to fit, and should still deter a burglar. It is all about making it as difficult and awkward as possible for them, they will usually go for a property that has no security. It is possible to get a wireless perimeter system which would be ideal for a small house. There are wireless add-ons like panic buttons and door sensors available with some systems.

Wired Burglar Alarm System

Harder to install than the wireless option simply because you have wires to try and hide. Not necessarily better or worse as depending on the option you go for you may be better off with a wireless system. If you go for a perimeter system this will be the better option. You will also get more add-ons like door and window sensors. This is the best option despite the wires for medium and larger properties. You also do not need to worry about batteries running out as with the wireless system.

Alarm Systems Add-ons

Options to add on to your alarm system:

  • CCTV
  • Door sensors
  • Smoke Alarms
  • Co2 Detectors
  • Pressure Pads
  • Professional Monitoring
  • Extra door and window sensors
  • standby batteries (if there is a power cut)
